STEAM Instructor (Summer Camp and/or Afterschool)

Job Description

Our growing technology education company seeks summer camp and out of school time STEAM Instructors to teach one or both of the following:

Day Camps

We offer a variety of day camps during school breaks such as Spring Break and Summer Break. These camps may be anywhere from 2 hours/day to 8 hours/day. Instructors may work at one location in the morning and another in the afternoon.

After School Enrichment Classes

Out of School time classes during the school year (classes are typically once a week series between 3:00pm-6:00pm Mon-Friday, you tell us in advance which day(s) of the week you can work i.e. Tuesdays & Thursdays, just Wednesdays, etc… occasional opportunities for Saturday hours 9am-3pm)
Position may be split to accommodate schedules of candidates.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a background in youth development and the ability to adapt quickly to a diverse array of student needs and teaching environments. We’re looking for an instructor with experience teaching in the classroom or leading out-of-school-time learning for elementary and middle school students. The successful candidate will possess the strong classroom management, public speaking, and interpersonal skills necessary to create an interactive, fun learning environment for students of varying ages, experience, and abilities and to interact with parents and camp hosts in a professional and friendly manner. Experience working with Scratch, Alice, Python, HTML, JavaScript, LEGO WeDo, LEGO SPIKE, LEGO Mindstorms, Arduino, or other educational technology tools a plus. Experience working with students with autism and other special needs a plus.

Essential Job Requirements

Must be able to lift at least 25lbs repetitively and load equipment in and out of vehicle and class locations.
Capable of light to moderate bending and lifting to set up class equipment, tables & chairs.
Must have own reliable transportation suitable for hauling equipment and valid driver’s license, and must be willing to travel throughout Cuyahoga County.
Successful background check required.
Must be available for one or more of the following:
School year Mon-Fri approx. 3:00-6:00pm at least 1 consistent day/week (i.e. Tuesdays)
School year Saturdays 8am-3pm
Spring Break/Summer Camps typically between 8am-5pm Mon-Fri

Essential Job Duties

The instructor will primarily teach GameBOT, which combines game coding and LEGO robotics but may be asked to teach other STEAM subjects.
Chaperon classes carefully to ensure all students are learning in a safe, constructive environment.
Provide daily written class reports to client and supervisor.
Transport, set-up, take down, and charge equipment before and after classes.
Ensure safe and appropriate use of equipment and supplies.

Skills

2+ years’ teaching experience in school or non-traditional setting required.
Ability to work with students of varying ages, experience, and abilities.
Experience working with students on the autism spectrum preferred.
Dexterity at adapting to changing classroom situations.
Ability to build rapport with elementary and middle school students.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrable record of helping students achieve confidence and competence.

Compensation Range

Hourly rate starting at $20/hr
Summer camps (14-40 hours/wk, approx $280-800/wk)
School year (2-12 hours/wk, approx $40-$240/wk)
Commensurate with experience
